I listened to Black Prairie’s A Tear in the Eye is a Wound in the Heart  today. They are basically The Decemberists without all the drowning waifs. There’s a kickass female vocalist with a gorgeous country-folk voice instead of Colin Meloy so I expected to love them. (I like CM but a little goes a loooong way.) I did like a few songs a whole lot, but the album as a whole was spotty.

Previously, Yo La Tengo’s Fade; and now, Local Natives’ new track “You & I” (unveiled today) on repeat.

The latter feels a lot weaker to me than “Breakers” and “Heavy Feet” – this track has really shaken my increasing confidence about buying the album.  (I didn’t exactly love Gorilla Manor)

I keep forgetting how much I love Joseph Arthur’s Redemption City and then listening again and finding something new to love about it.

Aww… Gorilla Manor did make it into my list of favourites for 2010, so I am interested to hear where they’ll be going with Hummingbird. I would pick “Breakers” as the strongest out of the three tracks released so far, though.
