    Hi All,

This is my first post here. I’m a long-ish time National fan, since Boxer. I hail from Southampton, England but now live in rural Western Pennsylvania. After all the years listening to The National I only just got to see them for the first time last June in Pittsburgh. And what a performance. My fiancé and I roped a couple of our friends into going with us to the Friday night show in Toronto at Massey Hall in April. Can’t wait! Has anyone been to Massey Hall before? i’ve heard it’s a small, but great venue.

This is only the second music forum I’ve been a member of, the first being Sweet Adeline (Elliott Smith).

    Hey National fans,

I’m Cath, from Adelaide, Australia. Been a fan since about 2007/2008 but heavily fallen for them in the last three years I guess after seeing them live for the first time. I’m a social worker and blogger and have had a hug from Mr B himself. Also really enjoyed his brother’s film, Mistaken for Strangers recently and I recommend you guys go see it.

    Cheers

you will love Massey Hall. Acoustics and slight lines are perfect. Beringer usually takes a trip around the main floor so get your camera ready. The Fran’s across the street is also the main ‘aftershow’ destination for people like Garth Hudson and the 70s version of Neil Young. It might be that the National know of this tradition.

Massey Hall is such a wonderful venue. Have great memories there after seeing The National there a few times previously – the fact they’re revisiting the venue says alot.

Hi, I’m Tracey. Been a NTNL fan since the day of Boxer’s release. It was streaming and I was in shock, song after song… brilliant. Saw them in LA (the El Rey or Wiltshire) didn’t know what to expect. Suddenly the drunk frontman walks into the drunk crowd. And it worked! Off of that, played Alligator obsessively. High Violet disappointed: I thought it was overproduced. TWFM took care of that. I took another look at HV (I did see them at the Hollywood Bowl for that tour, not a good night) and have grown to respect each song individually (make sense?) I was at a Q&A for Mistaken for Strangers (fantastic!) Mat, Carin and Tom answered questions. I asked Carin if she ever gets worried about Matt in the crowd. She said of course, then told a story where Matt got stuck in the balcony once. Saw them at the Greek and it remains one of my favorite concert experiences.

    That’s my story.

Hi, I’m Nick from Leeds, England. I’m a data storage engineer and love sport and music. I love boxing and golf and watch my football team Leeds United whenever possible. I first heard The National in 2007, it came up as a (music you may like) recommendation on a website and it was around the time of the release of Boxer. I ordered the CD that very day and have since obviously added all their work to my collection. I’ve not had the pleasure to see them live as yet, I keep missing out but : but this year I will!! The last 4 albums have been sheer genius. I’ve never in the past been able to single out ‘a favourite band’ I like so many, but I can’t honestly think of another band that has 4 consecutive class albums as The National do. This for the first time means that I can say without doubt, The National are my favourite band.

    Chris from Southern California

I’m a father, musician and aspiring screenwriter.

I had been a casual National fan for a few years. I picked up Boxer when it came out and thought it was just ok….at first. Cut to SNL a couple months back. Seeing their performance made me think I should maybe give them another chance so I did and they blew my mind.

I think maybe I wasn’t ready for them at the time. I’ve done a lot of growing up the last few years and I think maybe upon 2nd listen everything resonates more now. I’m obsessed with this band now and have been listening to nothing but their catalog for 2 months straight. I saw them at the Shrine in March for the Mistaken for Strangers premiere and then again last Friday at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

It was glorious. Anyway, nice to meet you all. If anyone wants to start a band lemme know :)

Hey everyone. I’ve been a fan since listening to Boxer in late 2007, after it was on a bunch of album of the year lists. Especially became a fan after seeing them live opening for R.E.M. in June 2008.
