Saw Frightened Rabbit live last night at a small club (Pyramid Scheme) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a fantastic show. They had a substitute drummer (as Grant H. is taking a break from the band) but you wouldn’t have known it from their sound. The club was great, the crowd was great – seemed like nearly everyone knew the songs.
Woke Up Hurting
I Wish I Was Sober
Living in Colour
Head Rolls Off
Nothing Like You
Old Old Fashioned
Keep Yourself Warm (with an extremely surreal crowd singalong on the chorus)
Scott solo: Poke
Rest of band: Woodpile
The Loneliness and the Scream
Great evening. Scott kept complimenting the crowd.
This summer we took a long road trip and I randomly listened to Midnight Organ Fight while driving through the eastern part of Washington state. The kids were watching a movie and my wife was asleep so I was able to totally focus on it and sing many of the songs. It was the first time I’d listened to them in maybe 5 years and it was great.
This has been on my mind constantly since Scott was reported missing two days ago. I never had the pleasure of seeing the band perform or meeting the man as many others have, and yet this loss feels as real as if he were a friend.
I will always be haunted by “Floating in the Forth” from now on. My brain could hardly comprehend the news this morning that he was found by the Forth Road Bridge. It felt like a cruel joke. He dwelled on that one a bit in his recent interview with noisey.
I thought he would always survive this. It’s a very sad day.
